The Centre for Creative Development Strategies was live at Sheraton Hotel, Abuja FCT, on Monday 6th June, 2022 to mark the World Environment Day. with the theme ‘Only One Earth ‘ Let us Protect it.
The event was held by the Federal Ministry of Environment in partnership with the Embassy of France in Nigeria and her partners. The celebration had started on Saturday, 4th of June with a World Environment Day Walk from Jabi Motor Park to Jabi Lake with a litter pick up campaign as a commitment to the protection of the environment.
The main event kicked off with a welcome address by the permanent secretary, Federal Ministry of Environment, Engr. Hassan Musa followed by EU ambassador who spoke on Nigeria’s partnership with the European Union in combating bio degradation and preserving the earth and mentioned about Nigeria’s net 0 plan by 2060.
The French ambassador to Nigeria Mrs. Emmanuelle Blatmann, spoke on climate change, the role France has played so far in the ideal and talking about the strategic partnerships set up and Nigeria’s role in the fight to protect the earth. Other representatives from UNIDO and OXFAM all spoke on the need to take action with regards to the fight to protect our environment from plastic waste.
A major highlight of the event is the presentation from the Nigerian Climate Change Response Program (NCCRP) who shared their 4 main objectives as follows:
1. Implement Mitigation Measures
2. Enhance national Capacity to adapt to climate change
3. Increase public awareness of climate change science and induce private sector participation in mitigation efforts.
4. Strengthen national institutions and mechanisms for climate change governance
